Speed Watch

Road Safety Update

In January the Police conducted speed checks on Cheltenham Road East and in other areas of the village. This action resulted in 12 Blue light stops and 13 static stops. 7 verbal warnings, 3 TORs (Traffic offence reports) 2 for excess speed and 1 for dangerous tyres and 1 VDRS (Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme)

Since the police action the volunteers involved with the Churchdown Speed Watch group, ‘Slow down Churchdown’, have carried out some speed surveys in the village. Over a fortnight they recorded 1,119 vehicles, 443 in the 20 mph zones, 676 in the 30mph zones. In the 20 zones, 398 vehicles (90%) were exceeding the speed limit.  236 (53%) at speeds of 26 and more with more than 10%  over 30mph. In the 30 mph zones, 321 of the 676 vehicles (47%) recorded were exceeding the limit with 13% doing 36 or more.  1.9% were exceeding 40 and a few in excess of 50.   Results have been passed on to the Police so they can target their actions in the village.

If you would like to be involved or would like the group to focus on a particular area, please email churchdownspeedwatch@talktalk.net or contact the Parish Office.

Dangerous parking in both Brookfield Road and Station Road, as well as other areas is a huge cause for concern. We are pressing for regular patrols from the Police to tackle the dangerous and obstructive parking within the village.

As always, if you see a pothole, it is important that these get reported to Gloucestershire Highways they can be inspected and repaired. You can report potholes online at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/reportit or by calling 08000 514 514.

If you have any concerns, please get in touch by calling 01452 713 528 or email  clerk@churchdown-pc.gov.uk or admin@churchdown-pc.gov.uk.
