July/August 2013.

PARISH COUNCIL: The Annual Parish Council meeting was held on 15th May. Cllr Pearl Stokes was re-elected as Chairman and Cllr Bill Whelan was re-elected as Vice-Chairman. We hope it will be another successful year for the Council and its plans. As ever, if residents have any concerns regarding local matters, please contact the office who will direct you to your local councillor.

PARISH PONDS: The planting of the ponds are well underway. Volunteers from St Andrews Church (‘Love Churchdown’) planted pond E on the May Day Bank Holiday and were rewarded by a picnic lunch afterwards provided by the GL3 Community Hub. At the end of May, parents and children from the GL3 Hub joined with Parish Council staff to plant ponds B and C. Thanks go to both sets of volunteers.

We are currently planning the installation of benches in the ponds area and some picnic tables which we hope residents will enjoy. It has been suggested that residents could sponsor a seat in the ponds area ie to commemorate the death of a loved one. Please contact the office if you are interested.

We are extremely disappointed to discover that some residents are letting their dogs off the lead and letting them play in the newly planted ponds. Please be aware that dogs must be kept on a SHORT LEAD in the ponds area.

JOHN DANIELS PAVILION: Works are starting on the Pavilion on John Daniels Way which is beginning to show its age. Phase 1 will be the replacing of the fascias, guttering and downpipes. It is hoped that with grant funding the windows and doors will be replaced, there will be pitch improvements and possibly some new play equipment.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES: The Summer Activities Scheme starts on 1st August with coach trips to Drayton Manor, Bristol Zoo, West Midland Safari Park and Weston Super Mare. On Tuesday 13th we have our Day in the Park where we will have a variety of activities for families and children including fairground rides, punch and judy, magic shows, a book fair, nature activities and pony rides. Entry is free as are many of the activities. Refreshments will be available on site but picnics are welcome!

ANNEXE TO THE COUNCIL OFFICES: A local artist/photographer is now occupying the space formerly rented by Badhams Pharmacy selling artwork, t-shirts, drinks and confectionary. We wish him every success in his venture.
